Squaw and Northstar
Latte’s been having some health problems recently so we decided not to take any far-away snowboarding trips this year. She gets really stressed out when we leave her for more than a couple of days, and in her current state, such a stressful situation might very well do her in. Now that she’s on steroids, [...]
Utah
This year, Judy and I decided to get a few more days of Utah boarding in by driving out and spending a week there. Unfortunately, this was probably one of the driest seasons in memory with unseasonably warm weather and a dearth of snow. With our lodging pre-paid, and with Dave and Patty having already [...]
The Canyons
Judy and I decided to do a last minute trip to Utah for one last weekend of snowboarding for the season. Since we always go to Powder Mountain and Snowbasin, we decided to stay in Salt Lake City this time and try out some new resorts. The plan was to fly in Friday night, hit [...]
Powder Mountain and Snowbasin
This year’s Powder Mountain trip was planned a bit late, primarily because Judy and I have been so busy. Between moving to Palo Alto and both of us being swamped at work, we didn’t really even start thinking about the trip until mid-January or so. After a bit of schedule coordination with the group (President’s [...]
Sugar Bowl
Today is a TiVo holiday. Blue Moon holiday to be more specific. This was apparently the day that TiVo shipped their first set-top box. It was a momentous occasion and just happened to coincide with a blue moon so it was designated an official TiVo holiday from that day on.
I decided to check out the [...]
Heli-Trip
We’ve been wanting to go on a heli-trip for some time now. It’s been one of those things that’s on our “life’s list of things to do”, but there has always been a tendency to push it off. Well, thanks mainly to Judy, it became a reality this season.
Judy, Patty, Brian, and I signed up [...]
Powder Mountain & Snowbasin
This was our first trip of the season to our favorite resort Powder Mountain. While California is having a great season snow-wise, Utah is unfortunately having a pretty dry one. Driving up to the resort, we are accustomed to having the mountain banks on the sides of the road covered with white snow. This trip, [...]
Kirkwood
One of the really nice things about Nor Cal is its proximity to the ski slopes. Kirkwood is about 3 hours away. In SD, you’ve got Big Bear which is fairly close, but the conditions there basically suck. Mammoth is the closest quality resort within driving distance, but that is 6-7 hours away.
Palumbo-Head Bachelor Party
Check out the pics from Aaron’s bachelor party to Mammoth and Bishop. It’s definitely worth a perusal - there’s some classic shots and some good captions, achem, if I do say so myself.
Powder Mountain
We returned yet again to our favorite snowriding destination and were definitely not disappointed. As luck would have it, our trip coincided perfectly with a nice little snow storm and we got to experience lots of the famous Utah white stuff.
The first day, we hit Snowbasin and were greeted with plenty of fresh powder. The [...]
Mammoth
Not many pictures on this trip and even less (zero) from another Mammoth trip (Doug, Sean, Judy, and myself) two weekends prior (the one where we couldn’t get the key to work in the front door).
For this trip, only Patty, Judy, and myself ended up going. Brian had planned to go as well, but had [...]
Powder Mountain & Snowbasin
We all left for the airport around 3 PM with Aaron and Kate in one car, Patty, Dave, and Bob in another, and Judy, Ryan, and myself in a third. As we were getting ready to go through the airport screeners, I realized that I had left my snowboard tool in my backpack. Crap, I [...]
Ouray & Telluride
Day 1: Early, Early Birds
The crew left for Ouray on Friday, Jan. 31. Aaron, Sean, and John took the early flight out of SD and boy was it early. Their flight was at a god awful 6:15 AM which means they had to wake up around 3:30 or 4:00?!!! Aye Carumba! The rest of us [...]
Mammoth
In terms of snow, 2003 was not shaping up to be a very good year. By mid-January, Powder Mountain had a base of only 53″ or so, and other big resorts like Whistler/Blackcomb, Jackson Hole, and Big Sky didn’t have much more. Strangely enough, the California resorts were actually faring quite well with Mammoth having [...]
Ouray and Telluride
This ended up being one of the most extreme adventures to date, though certainly not by choice. “Look, Nachos!” was the battle cry. Ice axes not only chipped into ice and clung onto rocks, but also smashed into faces. Snowboards were used for bobsledding and skeleton racing. One of us even tried to use a [...]
