Biking to Work
Today I biked to work for the first time. It wasn’t just the first time I’ve biked to TiVo, but the first time I’ve biked to work ever.
One of my co-workers offered some suggestions on which route to take. From our house on Seale, I just took Middlefield to Ellis which goes under the 101. From there, it’s on to Manila, then Moffet Park Dr, and then the bike path that parallels the northside of the 237. All in all, pretty straightforward, and most of the route has a nice wide shoulder.
Total round-trip was about 25 miles. A good way to not only get some exercise, but to sock it to OPEC. Granted, it’s a pretty small sock, but hey, it’s something.
I’m definitely going to take advantage of the nice weather and bike to work on a regular basis through the summer.

I’ve preached good excercise and “socking it to OPEC” to you practically the whole time we were at HNS together. I’m sure Derek did the same. Your stock reply was always “oh I’m scared of the roads” or “mountain biking is totally cooler”. Well I’m glad you’ve come to your senses, even if it took 5 years and the bay area to change your mind.
FYI, I am now “socking it to OPEC” in my new Prius. That is, when I’m not riding to work (once/week in summer). 4 of us with full backpacks fit comfortably on a trip to San Gorgonio this past weekend, and I got 46 mpg including climbing hills with all that extra weight.

Just for the record, mountain biking is still cooler.
You’re right, however, that I should have listened to your insightful preachings and enlightened words of wisdom. But alas, sometimes one must first stray before being able to see the light.
While we’re on the topic of your eminent wisdom, what is your recommended approach towards attaining eternal happiness? Also, what are your thoughts regarding the meaning of life?
46 mpg with people and gear?!! That’s awesome! Nice buy - I’m jealous!
