This was actually posted on April 24 because I had to get further clarification on TiVo’s public posting policies.

From the Associated Press: “A federal jury awarded TiVo Inc. more than $73 million in damages Thursday in a patent infringement lawsuit against EchoStar Communications Inc.”

TiVo’s press release can be found here which states our intention to seek a permanent injunction against Echostar’s DVR products. Wall Street seems to like the implications for TiVo: TIVO up $1.75 (21.74%) to $9.80 in after-hours trading.

This will likely serve notice to all the TiVo copycats out there, achem NDS (DirecTV), Comcast, Time Warner, Charter… Of course, it is very possible that this is far from over because Echostar can appeal. Regardless, we’ll certainly enjoy the victory!
