SBC DSL Woes

Being the internet junkie that I am, I made sure to have high-speed internet set up and ready to go before we moved in to our new place. Everything was hooked up by the time we moved in, and everything worked great for about a week. Unfortunately, I started having connection problems soon thereafter.

It appeared to me that there was something wrong with SBC’s DNS servers because often when I tried going to a particular site, my browser would hang as it looked for that site. Sometimes it would find it, and sometimes it would complain that the server could not be found. I spent some time with their tech support and when they couldn’t figure out the problem, they decided to send a tech out to check things out.

The tech came out, fiddled with a bunch of wires, ran a bunch of tests, and to make a long story short, everything seems to be all well and good now. Unfortunately, I’m too far from the central office to get the higher speed package. The 1.5Mbps down/384Kbps up I have right now is not bad, but I’d much rather have the next tier which is 3.0Mbps down/ 768Kbps up. Since my old ISP, Cyberonic, had speeds of 1.5/768, RohJuh.com will likely feel a bit slower, especially when viewing movies and larger pics. Hopefully SBC will get fiber installed in my neighborhood soon!

Got something to say?
