Powder Mountain
We returned yet again to our favorite snowriding destination and were definitely not disappointed. As luck would have it, our trip coincided perfectly with a nice little snow storm and we got to experience lots of the famous Utah white stuff.
The first day, we hit Snowbasin and were greeted with plenty of fresh powder. The riding was fantastic. We even found a little terrain park with rails and boxes that were only a few inches off of the ground. For some reason, there were all these little kids there that got in people’s way. What do these stupid snot-nosed kids think this is, some kiddie park or something?
That evening, Aaron and Kate went to have dinner with Aaron’s sister’s family, while the rest of us stayed in and cooked yummy chicken fajitas. Of course, that was after we all stuffed ourselves with plenty of chips and other junk food.
We went to Powder Mountain the next day and the conditions were much the same. They were so good in fact that we didn’t even do Lightning Ridge or Powder Country even though most of us already had Lightning Ridge passes from last year. Jen got her first experience with using a tow-rope and after some rough starts, got the hang of it.
That night, we all stayed in and Dave cooked his signature pasta. (NOTE FOR FUTURE TRIPS: 3 lb of pasta and 2 jars of sauce works out almost perfectly for 8 people. Also, we should nix the salad.) We ate dinner while Patty tried to see if she could change her flight reservations to New Jersey so that she could ski with us on Monday. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out and she ended up staying with her original plan to leave for the airport on Monday.
As with last year, the Grammys were on TV again. They were generally pretty boring and we all waited for Outkast to do their “Hey Ya” performance. Of course, that didn’t happen until near the end of the show after which we all went to bed.
Patty got picked up by the Moose Hollow shuttle the next morning while the rest of us got packed up and ready for another day of riding. Powder Mountain was running a great weekday special called the Bounceback. Basically, if you showed them your still attached ticket, your day and night lift ticket for a weekday/night would only be $30, an $11 savings off of the regular $41 all-day rate. What a deal considering Mammoth charges $62 for riding on much crappier snow and much larger crowds.
Our final day was exceptional again. We got a good full day in and then returned to the condo foyer to change and repack. We had a quick dinner at the Bangkok Chef and then headed to the airport. A mechanical problem resulted in a change of planes, but fortunately, it did not delay things by too much. We were soon back in San Diego fresh with memories of another great trip.
